 Interested In Running a Scale?

If you are building an 1/8th scale boat or just thinking about buying one and you want to make sure it is legal to run in NAMBA, IMPBA or APBA, here are just a couple of things to know. Get the measurements of the real boat. To find this out just go to NAMBA.com then go to the scale section and click on "Hull Roster". The hull roster will convert the measurements to 1/8 scale for you. You can also check to make sure that the your paint and lettering is correct for your boat. For that information, check out Roger Newton's website (newtonmarine.com). Roger also has photographs and plans for 1/8th scale.

Your 1/8th scale has to have a driver (blacked out window is NOT acceptable) and has to have a cockpit. For NAMBA District 3, the model of the driver must have upper body with arms and hands on a steering wheel. If you are still working on your boat and isn't completely painted or you're still doing some modifications (lettering, driver, etc.), you can still race for a couple of races. I urge everyone to bring their scale boats out and race them.

If anybody has any questions about scale boats or needs help, please call me or send me an email and I will try to help if possible.

 2008 BUD SWENSON TROPHY
The Bud Swenson for 2008 will go to the driver that acumulates the most points as laid out in the next paragraph. The first three heats of scale racing, your points are totaled up after each High Points race. (it doesn't matter if we run the straight four heats or the Love Plan) The driver at the end of the year with the most driver points win the Bud Sewnson Trophy. Yes, you can go to every race and accumulate points. You get your name and boat name engraved on a plaque and it is mounted to the trophy.

Scale Racing and the "Love Plan"
We will be Running the Love Plan at high point races that have at least ten 1/8 scale unlimited boats entered for the race. Now that are our frequency channels are also registered when you register your scale boat, there will not be any frequency problems. We have now added an alternate boat to the final. A alternate boat is the boat that comes in second in the consolation heat. It goes into the final as the seventh boat. It stays wide and out of everyone's way and is behind the pack before the start of the race. At the start of the race, if another boat has died or failed to start, then the alternate boat is now allowed to take the place of that boat and race normally with everyone else. If all boats make the start then the alternate boat is to come back into the pits.

High Points Scoring under the Love Plan.
Six boats make the final. How they finish in the final is the points they get for that race weekend. If a boat doesn't finish, it is placed in the order in which it died. For example: The first boat to die gets sixth place points, the 2nd boat to die gets fifth place points, the 3rd boat to die gets fourth place points. 7th is determined by what happens with the alternate: In the event that a top 6 boat doesn't make the start then he is the 7th place finisher and the alternate boat would race to to take 1st through 6th place, in the event that all of the top 6 boats make the start then the alternate boat gets 7th place points. 8th,9th place points are the 3rd and 4th place finishers in the consolation race, In the event that there is no consi then the scores from the first 3 rounds of heat racing will be used to determine order of finish 7th through 9th.
